Agata Bowl in Aluminium
Studio Henry Wilson
Influenced by Eastern aesthetics, particularly those of Japanese ceremonial bowls, Agata Bowl is an exercise in the juxtaposition of processes. Specifically, it renders the qualities of refined ceramics in rough, sandcast aluminium.
Whilst the form retains the proportions and attributes of ceramic traditions – such as the fine bottom edge that effects a delicate way of meeting the table – the materiality of metal and a raw industrial manufacturing process deliver a pleasing play on the expected properties of such vessels.
Aluminium will naturally oxidise and patina over time to give a weathered, softened look. The like-new shiny finish can be easily restored with a metal polish.
