In collaboration with twentytwentyone, leading British designers Barber & Osgerby have created a range of lighting drawing on the heritage of Japanese lantern-making. The Hotaru collection launched at the London Festival of Design 2015, and represents the perfect unison of traditional craft with an enduring aesthetic that is as modern as it is timeless.
Named after the Japanese word for ‘firefly’, the collection is manufactured by Ozeki & Co Ltd, a celebrated Japanese company dedicated to making washi paper lanterns since 1891. Ozeki have previously collaborated with numerous Japanese artists and designers and worked with Isamu Noguchi on the production of his Akari light sculptures.
There are two different lantern shapes in the Hotaru range. Double Bubble derives its strong, sculptural profile from the fusing of twin spheres, while Buoy is inspired by a maritime marker – at once anchored and weightless. Both shapes come in smaller and larger sizes, making them suitable for a variety of home and commercial spaces.
The Small Hotaru Buoy Pendant is supplied with black lacquered steel ceiling rose, E27 lamp holder with bulb and 2m black cloth-covered cable.
Furniture and Lighting items are available to purchase online or with our dedicated consultants at our Auckland showroom. Our range consists of:
Stocked Items
We offer a carefully curated collection of stocked items from the brands we represent, encompassing dining chairs, barstools, coffee and side tables, dining tables, lighting, outdoor furniture, beds, and a select range of upholstered items. These pieces are typically available for dispatch within 2-3 days of order confirmation.
New Zealand Made to Order
Many of our pieces, particularly upholstered items, are made to order, allowing us to create a product tailored specifically to your requirements. A wide range of fabric and leather options is available beyond the recommendations shown online. We are happy to discuss and curate material selections that best suit your space and lifestyle.
Lead times displayed online are indicative only and may vary depending on seasonal demand, material availability, and manufacturing schedules. For example, certain materials may be temporarily unavailable, or our manufacturers may operate Pre-Christmas order cut-off dates from Late September.
International Brands
We maintain a carefully curated selection of stocked items from our international brands. To preserve the breadth and diversity of this collection, not all items are held in stock, and some imported items may be subject to lead times from overseas locations.
Lead times displayed online are indicative only and may vary depending on seasonal demand or unforeseen freight disruptions.
Ordering Products with Lead Times
When placing an order for a product with a lead time, we recommend carefully reviewing all details, as made-to-order and imported pieces are not eligible for return.
If changes are required, please contact us within one business day of placing your order. Beyond this timeframe, amendments may no longer be possible or may incur an additional fee.
Once your order has been received, our team will review the details and advise if there are any changes to the estimated lead time, including those relating to material availability or orders placed after Pre-Christmas manufacturing cut-off dates.
Otherwise, you will receive an order confirmation, and we will be in touch closer to completion to arrange collection or delivery.
