Lap Shelving - Low
Case
The Lap Shelving by award-winning designer Marina Bautier is a modular storage solution designed with simplicity in mind. Whether you need a single 1m shelving unit for an alcove or an entire wall of shelving in an office, the lap shelving is adaptable to work in different environments. Starting with a single unit, you can add extensions to provide you with enough storage. Choose from a frame filled entirely with sturdy steel shelving to house your collection of tomes, or a mixture of trays, deep and shallow boxes with shelves to store a variety of paperbacks and objects.
Marina designed the shelving system with this modularity and adaptability from realising the strange way people store objects in a box or on a tray that is then placed on a shelf. The name 'Lap' refers to how the metal overlaps the wood structure. How you arrange the components is up to you, and they can be rearranged at any time.
Marina bautier
Graduating from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College, the Belgian designer Marina Bautier set up her design practice in 2002. She has gone on to refine her own deft design language to produce work for manufacturers such as Idée, Ligne Roset and Case, and also takes on interior and private client work.
Marina Bautier cultivates a design approach based on use. Away from any pretence, she creates furniture and objects which render many services without ever encumbering.
While she gives priority to simple structures and materials easily manufactured, she also carefully considers appearance and implementation qualities.
Away from technological rhetoric, Marina Bautier emphasizes the beauty and the modernity of familiar materials, and especially of wood. Spotted as ‘the names we’re watching’ by Elle Decoration UK in 2007, she has recently been awarded ‘Best use of Material: wood’ by Wallpaper Magazine.
