Welcome to Professionals

Established in 2001, Simon James celebrates the spaces we spend time in; combining a holistic approach to design with a focus on simplicity and honest materials. Guided by core values of craftsmanship, timelessness and materiality, each piece resonates for its beauty and function.

Through the showroom, retail stores and online store, our own furniture designs are shared alongside the work of others.

Our Professionals Platform assists you with collaborating on made-to-order furniture solutions, discovering talented makers and finding treasures for the home and modern life.

Our Showroom

Our Furniture & Lighting showroom is a spacious, light-filled space in the heart of Mount Eden, casting our contemporary designs in an industrial setting. Originally a mechanic’s workshop in the 1970s, the space was adapted by architects Keshaw McArthur to suit its new purpose, while maintaining the proportions, geometries and materiality of the building’s former life: exposed metal beams and concrete floors are tempered with fabric hanging from the walls and ceilings, to bring calm and scale to the expansive space.

We invite you to explore our showroom to discover our Simon James collections alongside our edit of the most relevant contemporary design brands.

Lightly Weighted by Oli Booth Architecture

Lightly Weighted, by Oli Booth Architecture, reconsiders the idea that inner-urban living needs to compromise on feeling reclusive and calm. Perched in an elevated position, the modest two-bedroom home feels removed and transportive, despite being embedded amongst residences in the Auckland suburb of Grey Lynn.

Cedar Chevron by RTA Studio

The family's passion for boating, their lakeside location, and a multi-generational use space, was RTA Studio's brief - resulting in a holiday house inspired by three boat-shed forms, sitting on the edge of Lake Taupō. Somewhat simple in form at first glance, the challenge was to create a house that captured some of the nostalgia of the old Taupō fishing baches, whilst offering a larger, modern, and more flexible programme.

Marine Parade by Seear-Budd Ross

Designed by multi-disciplinary duo Thomas Seear-Budd and James Ross, this Marine Parade home celebrates a minimal material palette to highlight the exquisite use of macrocarpa and limestone. Situated at the base of the Eastbourne hills, this home demonstrates an exceptional skill of balance — blending and reflecting the design vernacular of its neighbours along the Lower Hutt esplanade.
