Caring for your Jessica McCormack Jewellery
Jessica McCormack believes jewellery should last longer than a single lifetime, and caring for it properly is the best way to ensure that generations to come will get to wear and love it too.
We recommend the following daily care practices and guidelines:
Daily Care
• 18k Gold and Gemstones are precious, and should be treated accordingly. Be sure to handle your jewellery with care.
• Be mindful of your daily and regular activities, and remove jewellery before doing a task that has the potential for impact or repeated friction on your jewellery. This includes activities like high impact exercise, sports or gardening where you might knock or rub them.
• Remove jewellery when doing washing or cleaning as harsh soaps and chemicals can damage precious metals and gemstones.
• Avoid heat and temperature extremes as sudden changes can affect delicate stones and materials.
Before Wearing
Each day, before putting on your piece of jewellery, be sure to:
• Check clasps, safety catch and hoops to ensure all closures are secure, aligned and not loose before wearing. If you have a pair of our Signature Gypset Hoops, please make sure to ‘Make it Click’ and listen for the click to ensure they are properly closed.
• Save the best for last! Put jewellery on after applying makeup, perfume, and hair products.
• When in doubt - If you are in the slightest doubt, we advise not to wear your piece of jewellery until you have had it checked with us or a professional jeweller.
Cleaning And Maintenance
Your jewellery should be regularly cleaned and maintained:
• Clean your jewellery at home in a bowl with warm, mildly soapy water and a very soft brush - we recommend a soft
toothbrush and a dash of gentle dish detergent. Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
• As part of our aftercare, we recommend a yearly check-up and cleaning - this is a complimentary annual service. Simply drop in your jewellery to our Herne Bay store or get in touch.
• Pearl Necklaces and Bracelets should be checked every 1-3 years, for servicing of the silk stringing.
Storing Your Jewellery
• When it comes to storage, jewellery’s worst enemy is other jewellery! Keep your items separate by storing them in their
Jessica McCormack box or pouch when travelling, or stored in separate compartments of a jewellery box. This includes
separating each earring in a pair.
• Lay chains flat and fastened, this prevents tangling and stress on the links.
