Double Courtyard House by Roberts Gray Architects consists of two rammed earth pavilions set into the dunes at Te Arai.

The pavilions bring together contrasting hip and flat roof forms, reflecting the different qualities of the spaces within. These opposing elements are carefully balanced at their points of connection, where heavy roof planes meet finer edges and solid walls transition into operable openings.

Positioned with deliberate shifts in both plan and section, the pavilions respond to the movement of the sun while framing views toward the sea. Each courtyard establishes its own character and sense of enclosure, allowing the house to feel protected from the coastal environment while remaining closely connected to the surrounding landscape.

Double Courtyard House features the Principle Dining Table by Simon James and Collective Sofa by Nonn available at Simon James. Together, the pieces balance natural materiality, understated form and everyday comfort within the home.
